Education
John has a Doctorate Degree from Brigham Young University in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. His Master’s Degree is in Counseling from the University of Utah, and his Bachelor’s Degree is in Psychology from Brigham Young University.
Experience
In addition to 33 years in private practice as a therapist, he also served in the United States Navy as a Clinical Psychologist, in Granite School District as a School Psychologist, as Director of Northern Utah Mental Health, and as an adjunct instructor at Utah State and Weber State Universities.
Additional Training
John regularly attends seminars and conferences to stay current on clinical research and successful counseling methods. He recently has attended conferences on PTSD, Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Psychopharmacology, and Anger Management.
Professional Activities
John served on the Utah State Licensure Board for Marriage and Family Therapy for 10 years, and is Past President of the Utah Association for Marriage and Family Therapists. He has presented seminars and workshops across the country and locally to civic, religious, community, and professional organizations. He recently traveled across country presenting on “Working with Couples with Psychiatric Disorders” to other counseling professionals.
Personal Information
John and his wife Lou Ann have been married 20 years in a blended family and are the parents of three married adult children and three single adult children (yours, mine, and ours). They have suffered through the loss of three teenaged daughters to accidental deaths. They currently have four grandchildren.
